Tour to Alpilles
Meet your driver-guide for a day trip devoted to the exploration of the Alpilles, harmonious natural site and a chain of limestone mountains in the northwest of the Bouches du Rhône department, in Provence.
Les Alpilles, which is literary translated as the “Small Alps”, is a very secret and the most authentic part of Provence. The Alpilles has proudly preserved its traditions and the charm of a typically Provencal way and art of life.
You visit the St Rémy de Provence, a historic village built on one of the oldest archeological sites in Europe - Glanum. Together with your guide, you walk through its shaded boulevards and winding streets lined with private mansions from the Renaissance and the 18th century, beautifully restored homes, chapels, and convents. Here you can also find the Monastery of Saint-Paul de Mausolé, a gem of Provençal Romanesque architecture itself, that is famous for having taken in Vincent Van Gogh in 1889. It is in this monastery that Van Gogh painted 150 of his most well-known works.
Then you proceed to Baux de Provence, a picturesque Medieval village that is officially classified and labelled as "one of the most beautiful villages in France”. Here you can find carefully restored architectural masterpieces on every corner of the village’s cobblestone lanes and enjoy the magnificent panoramic views of Arles and the Alpilles that open up from the Citadel of Les Baux de Provence.
