Day 1: Arrival in Anchorage

Welcome to Anchorage!

Upon arrival, your driver transfers you to the centrally-located hotel for check-in. After time to freshen up you will have free time to explore the city on your own.

Day 2: Spencer Iceberg & Placer River Float

Available May 25 – September 7, 2020

Board the Glacier Discovery Train for a ride to the backcountry: the Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop. Here, get up close and personal to the glacier on this mellow float suitable for ages 5 and up. Experienced and professional guides will row between dazzling icebergs, with a panoramic view of Spencer Glacier and the surrounding mountains as a backdrop. After exploring amid the icebergs on Spencer Lake, your guide will steer you down the pristine Placer River, still affording grand views of the mountains and hanging glaciers, until pulling over to the riverbank; the Glacier Discovery Train makes a special riverbank stop to pick up rafting guests. This is one of the most scenic glacier river trips in Alaska and the first tour to operate at the Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop!

Day 3: Wildlife Turnagain Arm Tour

Experience the breathtaking landscape of the Turnagain Arm on a half-day tour with an informative guide. Ride along the scenic Seward Parkway to the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge and Beluga Point, stopping for photo ops and wildlife observation. Visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a large nature preserve where injured animals are rehabilitated.

Day 4: Anchorage City Tour and Departure

Today you meet your local guide and have a tour of Anchorage city. You will visit historic Ship Creek where Anchorage was first settled as a tent city in 1911. Here, you'll find a thriving urban salmon stream where downtown anglers often catch salmon on their lunch breaks from work. Your guide will then take you to Earthquake Park and Point Woronzof, where you can take in the stunning view of the Anchorage skyline set against the backdrop of the Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet. Your journey continues into Potter's Marsh and the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, a protected wildlife habitat home to many migratory species of birds in the summer. Next is a visit to Chugach State Park and the stunning vistas of Flattop Mountain. Get a bird's eye view of the Municipality of Anchorage (which is larger than Rhode Island!) as well as views of Sleeping Lady, Denali, and the Alaska Range on clear days. As the tour comes to an end, you'll head back downtown where your guide will point out the best restaurants, bars, gift shops, and art galleries before bidding farewell. A perfect introduction to the diverse area that is Anchorage!

In the afternoon you meet your driver for a transfer to the railway station.

Departing from Seward, the cruise glides past seals, whales and puffins as we explore coastal rainforests, tidewater glaciers and remote Alaskan islands. Experienced and engaging captains narrate the trip, so you walk away knowing a whole lot more about Kenai Fjords National Park and its wonders.

Day 3: Exit Glacier Hike
Embark on an adventure through time as you approach the Exit Glacier area, keeping an eye out for man-made and natural signs of this well-documented glacial retreat. Learn how to read the rugged landscape, what the changes here mean for ecosystems past and present, and how they inform our future as well.

We’ll hike along the banks of the roaring glacial outflow towards the perpetually changing face of the glacier. As we wander through cottonwoods, alders, and eventually out onto rugged rocky terrain, the landscape seemingly changes before our eyes.
