Welcome to Greece

Volcanic Origin: Milos has a rich geological history due to its volcanic origin. This volcanic activity has created a diverse landscape with unique rock formations, colorful beaches, and thermal springs.

Catacombs: The Christian Catacombs of Milos, located near the ancient city of Klima, are one of the earliest sacred Christian sites in Greece. They are believed to date back to the 1st century AD and were used for religious ceremonies and as a burial site.

Venus de Milo: One of the most famous sculptures from ancient Greece, the Venus de Milo (or Aphrodite of Milos), was discovered on this island in 1820. It's now displayed at the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Castle of Milos: Situated in Plaka, the Castle (or Kastro) offers breathtaking panoramic views of the island and the Aegean Sea. It's a remnant of the Venetian era and has been a significant landmark for centuries.

Traditional Architecture: The architecture in Plaka is quintessentially Cycladic, with whitewashed buildings, narrow alleys, and blue-domed churches.

Archaeological and Folk Museums: The Archaeological Museum of Milos houses artifacts from the island's ancient history, including obsidian tools that demonstrate the significance of the island in prehistoric trade routes. The Folk and Historical Museum offers a look into the island's more recent past and cultural heritage.

Sarakiniko Beach: While not directly in Milos Town, it's worth mentioning due to its proximity and uniqueness. It’s one of the most photographed spots in the Aegean. The beach is characterized by its moon-like landscape of smooth, chalky-white rock formations sculpted by wind and wave erosion.

Fishing Villages: Near Milos Town, there are picturesque fishing villages like Klima with its colorful boathouses called "syrmata." These structures are carved into the rocks and are a distinctive feature of the island.

Thermal Springs: Due to its volcanic nature, Milos has several thermal springs. The most famous ones are in Lakkos and Adamas.

Rich Mining History: Milos has been a mining center since ancient times due to its abundant mineral resources, especially obsidian, which was a precious commodity in the prehistoric Aegean. The Mining Museum in Adamas tells the story of this history.
